Six arrested with 85,000 yaba pills

Police in separate drives arrested six people including three Rohingyas and seized 85,000 yaba tablets from their possession in Chattogram city on Wednesday night and yesterday morning.

The three Rohingyas were identified as Abu Taher, 22, Md Ismail, 28, and Md Mubarak, 27, hailing from Teknaf Jadimura Rohingya Camp. They were arrested with 50,000 yaba tablets from Bridge Ghat area. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted the drive around 10pm on Wednesday, said Md Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station.

Other arrestees -- Md Mamun, 24, Jubaer, 18, and Abu Bakar Siddique, 20 -- are residents of the city's Firingi Bazar area. They had 35,000 yaba tablets while they were going to Chattogram from Teknaf on a microbus at 8am, said OC Mohsin.

“During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they carried the yaba tablets from Teknaf to sell those in Chattogram city and other parts of the country,” he added.
