A schoolboy, who was injured in a knife attack by his friends over a Facebook post in Mymensingh, died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) on Tuesday night.
The victim, ninth-grader Kawser Hossain (17), is son of Mukter Hossain of Churkhai area in Mymensingh Sadar upazila.
Quoting family members and locals, Mahmudul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said one Nahid Hossain, a first-year college student, became angry at Kawser for posting picture of a girl on Facebook recently.
Kawser and Nahid lived in the same area and knew each other quite well, said locals, adding, that girl used to be a friend of Nahid.
On Tuesday noon, Nahid and his accomplices engaged in an altercation with Kawser in front of a local school over the incident. At one stage, they stabbed him, the OC added.
Hearing Kawser’s scream, locals rescued and took him to MMCH where he died around 8pm. The body was sent to the hospital’s morgue for autopsy, the OC informed.
Kawser’s father filed a murder case with the police station, accusing three persons including Nahid, said OC Khondaker Shaker Ahmed (investigation) of the police station.
He said police have detained a youth for interrogation. By the time this report was filed around 5pm yesterday, the youth was in police custody. Police did not disclose his identity for the sake of investigation.
“We’re conducting drives to arrest all the accused.”
