RU to admit students to EEE dept

Brushing aside applied physics students' protest

Despite strong opposition from students of applied physics and electronic engineering (APEE), the admission committee of Rajshahi University has decided to enrol students at the newly approved electrical and electronics engineering (EEE) department this session.

The committee met on Monday with Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin in the chair, and agreed to admit 30 students in the 2015-16 academic session.

Admission tests at RU are scheduled for November 9-12.

The applied physics students launched protest on Saturday, saying the two disciplines had the same curriculum, obviating the need for a separate EEE department.

Demanding conversion of APEE into EEE, the protesters started an indefinite boycott of classes and exams yesterday and will stage a one-hour sit-in from 10:00am today.

The syndicate, the highest decision-making body, endorsed the new discipline on August 31.

VC Mizanuddin said "The chairman and other teachers will be appointed in a couple of days."
