Hefajat’s hartal: Situation in Rajshahi mostly normal
People's presence on roads and bazar areas in Rajshahi is thin during the dawn-to-dusk hartal enforced by Hefajat-e-Islam today.
Except this, situation, including vehicular movement, in the district remains normal.
Long distance buses and trains left stations, and shops and markets are open during the hartal, our staff correspondent reports.
National Travels official Masud Rana said that nine out of 11 buses started for Dhaka in the morning.
The number of passengers, however, was nearly 40 percent today, he said.
Earlier, Hefajat activists carried out their programmes from Rajshahi Darul Ulum Madrasa and an orphanage in the city's Malopara.
When asked, the madrasa's principal Maulana Minhaj Uddin Ahmed, said there was no committee of Hefajat in the city since 2014 when its city general secretary Maulana Abdus Samad died.
Maulana Minhaj also said that he did not have any information on Hefajat's activities at present.
