Bangladeshi surgeon elected to int’l body

Orthopaedic surgeon Prof Dr Amjad Hossain has been elected to a global non-profit organisation of professionals of the field.
Dr Hossain, chief consultant and head of the Department of Labaid Hospital's Orthopaedic and Arthoplasty Centre has been elected vice-president of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT), a non-profit organisation of global orthopaedic surgeons. Orthopedic surgeons from 110 countries are members of the prestigious organisation, located in Belgium.
Dr Amjad is also a former president of Bangladesh Orthopedic Society and recently become VP of the SICOT executive committee, a press release said.
Labaid Hospital authorities have accorded a reception to the newly elected SICOT leader. The programme was attended by chief consultants and other officials of the hospital, along with senior and junior physicians.
Dr Amjad has brought revolutionary change in hip and knee replacement surgery, according to the release.
He has performed over 3,000 such surgeries till now. At the age of 19, Amjad took part in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. During the war, he sustained grievous injury on his femur and underwent lengthy treatment at Indian military hospitals.
Presently, he is actively engaged in social service, especially in Dinaipur district, the press release further said.
