Law and order becoming normal: IGP

Law and order situation of the country is returning to normality, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque yesterday.
"Vehicular movement across the country has increased. Life in Dhaka is returning to normal," he told a programme at the Police Headquarters in the capital. At the event, about 25 police personnel were rewarded with Tk 5.5 lakh for nabbing "arsonists and people hurling crude bombs red-handed" during the ongoing blockade.
Most arsonists arrested turned out to be activists of the BNP-Jamaat or persons hired by such activists, he said.
Replying to a query on allegations of arresting people and releasing them after taking money, the inspector general said they were investing such claims. The IGP claimed 18 policemen were killed in violence over the January 5 elections.
