Justice JN Deb Choudhury dies

Justice JN Deb Choudhury, a sitting judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, died of cancer at Square Hospital in Dhaka today. He was 51.

Justice Choudhury left behind his wife, a son and a daughter and a host of admirers to mourn his death, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star. 

He will be cremated at his home village in Sylhet today, the attorney general said.

Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, who is now functioning as chief justice of the country as Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha is in abroad, and other SC judges expressed shock at the death of Justice Choudhury and expressed sympathy to his bereaved family members.

Law Minister Anisul Huq and Law Reporters Forum also expressed condolences to the bereaved family members.          

According to the SC website statement, Justice JN Deb Choudhury was born on March 15, 1965.

He obtained LLB under University of Chittagong. He got enrolled as an advocate of the district court, the High Court Division and the Appellate Division of the SC on April 16, 1990; May 11, 1992 and November 4, 2001 respectively. 

He was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court Division on February 12 last year. Justice JN Deb Choudhury is the author of “Labour and Industrial Law” students’ Edition (in Bangla).
