Cattle trader injured by BSF, youth found dead

A Bangladeshi cattle trader was beaten and injured by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) near Putkhali border under Benapole Port Police Station early yesterday.

The victim, Ariful Islam, 25, son of Golam Ali, was a resident of Shivnathpur Baropota village under the police station.

BSF troops caught Ariful when he along with some other cattle traders were returning home from India along with the cattle around 4:30am, said Lt Col Abdur Rahim, commanding officer of BGB 23 Battalion.

BGB men beat him up mercilessly, leaving him critically injured. Later, his fellow cattle traders rescued him and admitted him to Jessore Medical College Hospital, the CO added.

Meanwhile, in another incident, Benapole police recovered the body of a youth from Putkhali bordering area early yesterday.

The deceased, Shariful Islam, 33, son of Halim Mia, was a resident of Pirulia village in Kalia upazila of Narail.

Apurba Hasan, officer in charge of Benapole Port Police Station, said villagers spotted Shariful's body around 4:30am.
