The Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) administration held talks with a group of protesting students today, where they gave assurances that the temporary suspension of 37 students would be reconsidered.

The development was shared by Professor Abdullah Elias Akhter, director of student welfare, during a press conference at the KUET Student Welfare Centre at noon.

"We had called on the protesting students to come forward for dialogue to resolve the issues at hand. A section of the students responded to our call, and a discussion has been held with them," the director said.

He added that the university administration had assured the students it would reconsider the temporary suspension of 37 students and take appropriate steps regarding the legal cases filed against several others.

Discussions on other student demands were described as productive, though details were not disclosed.

Professor Abdullah urged students to call off their protest and resume academic activities.

However, one of the protesting students, who was present at the meeting, said, "There was no such discussion as claimed."

"Since the new Director of Student Welfare has just taken charge, he invited us to meet him as members of the Student Welfare Committee. We went to his office briefly, but there was no formal discussion or meeting regarding our demands. He had simply called us to his room, and we just met him and left—nothing more than that," the student added.
