DW-RU bootcamp: 3 projects get booted up
Three best projects were awarded in the DW-RU Media Tech Challenge Bootcamp 2019 at Rajshahi University today.
Prof Fakrul Islam, Dean of Social Science faculty of RU, and Prof Abdullah Al Mamun, chairman of Media Communication and Journalism department, handed over the cheques to the winners on the final day of the three-day event organised jointly by RU and Deutsche Welle Akademie.
The three winner teams, 'Step-1' and 'Fake Busters' for bringing out ideas to verify fake news stories over the internet and 'Spring to Summer' for its idea to fight environment pollution through web-based application, were awarded Tk 2 lakh each to develop their ideas into final products.
The bootcamp that kicked off on Friday was an unique interactive programme where professionals from different disciplines including journalists, computer coders, joined students in seperate teams.
Students of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) departments of the university participated in the bootcamp, along with journalists from Radio Today, Channel i, and The Daily Star.
A total of 35 participants in six teams, comprising media professionals and students of RU MCJ and CSE departments, presented separate prototypes of their projects on different ideas for solutions to ongoing national issues in the competition.
Rest of the three teams each were also awarded with a funding of Tk 50,000.
Bokhtiar Ahmed, associate prof of Anthropology department, Software Engineer Nur A Shawal Siddique, and Olga Kesselmann of DW Akademie were in the jury board of the final selection process.
Andrea Marshall, Project Manager Media Development Asia at DW Akademie, Daniel Seitz, Marcus Boesch and Coordinator of DW Akademie Lutfa Ahmed helped to organise the programme, and also briefed the students with their ideas and helped them to develop the prototype of their projects.
Olga Kisselmann announced the names of winners at the award giving ceremony.
The bootcamp was organised aiming to give the participants a hands-on experience in coming up with innovative solutions to new media.
