BIJF seeks transparency in the 2019-2020 budget
Bangladesh ICT Journalist Forum (BIJF), the largest platform for ICT Media Professionals, finds maintaining transparency as one the biggest challenge for the implementation of the proposed budget. These findings were made public in a 'Post Budget Analysis Session' hosted by BIJF yesterday. The discussion concluded with the remarks that the lack of supervision will definitely impact the ICT industry.
Chaired by President Mojahedul Islam, General Secretary Hasan Zakir presented keynote while Vice President Naznin Nahar also present during the session at Janata Tower Hi-Tech Park in capital's Karwan Bazar.
The organisation appreciated the increased allocations in the 'Technology Sector' as the government proposed Tk 15,773 crore for upcoming fiscal which was below Tk 500 crore just ten years back. The increased allocation will pave the way to achieve Digital Bangladesh vision, speakers claimed. BIJF also recommended for reconsidering the proposed duty increase for smartphone, import and electronic trading for the next two fiscals. It must be mentioned that the government plans to raise the customs duty on smartphones to 25% from the existing 10% from the next fiscal year.
