Biman to begin flights on Sylhet-London route from October 4
Biman Bangladesh Airlines will start direct flights to London from Sylhet from October 4.
Biman earlier occasionally operated London flights from Osmani International Airport in Sylhet.
But from October 4, the national flag carrier will fly on the Sylhet-London route on a regular basis, said a press release.
Sylhet is home to a large number of Bangladeshi expatriates who are staying in London.
Bangladeshi expatriates in London have long been demanding direct flights to London from Sylhet as many people, including students and business persons staying in the UK, and other European countries are from Sylhet.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad, State Minister for Civil Aviation M Mahbub Ali, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air-Vice Marshal M Mafidir Rahman, among others will remain present at a press conference at the Sylhet Airport on October 4 to mark the occasion, Biman said in the release.
