Establish handset radiation measuring lab: Speakers
Association of mobile phone users today asked the authorities concerned to set up proper laboratory to measure the radiation level of mobile devices as per the standard of International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection and ban the devices hazardous to health.
Currently, there is no authority in the country that measures radiation of mobile phones.
In a programme at National Press Club organised by Bangladesh Mobile Phone Users' Association, speakers have placed five-point demand after launching a study report run by Daffodil International University.
They also urged to set up radiation measuring devices in different common places like shopping malls and common handset market so that customers can check the radiation level before purchasing their devices.
It also demanded to withdraw handsets that emit higher level of radiation.
In its report, Daffodil International University said the overall performance of the different branded handsets is quite okay, but for the cheap devices they have the concern about radiation issues.
Md Kamruzzaman, a professor of the Daffodil University, who presented the report, said, "Every mobile phone handset emits radiation in every minute, but we need to use it without creating any harm."
In the report, they said more people are suffering from headache, hearing problems, pain in the ear and so on due to higher level rations from mobile phone devices.
President of the association Mohiuddin Ahmed said the telecom regulator has set up a database of IMEI number which will help to ensure the import of quality devices in the country.
So, the government now needs to take measure to import safe devices, he said.
