1.3 lakh mobile users switch operators using MNP

In the first four months, 1,33,621 mobile phone users have successfully switched their operators keeping its existing eleven digits number, a service which was introduced aiming to enhance competition in the mobile market.
Of the total number, Robi received 93,828 customers from other three players while 23,911 of their customers left the second largest operator's network, according to a report of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) published today.
The report also shows another 14,896 customers have tried to leave Robi, but they failed for some procedural challenges.
Some 25,615 customers used the mobile number portability service to avail Banglalink's network from other operators while 45,092 customers have left the third largest operator's service. And 44,031 more customers also tried but failed to opt out of Banglalink for different reasons, reads the report.
Grameenphone found only 12,346 customers from their competitors while 62,317 customers have left the market leader's network.
A total of 39,857 existing customers also tried to leave Grameenphone but couldn't move to their expected operators due to some unresolved issues.
Lone state-owned operator Teletalk found 2,002 customers from the other three operators but 2,301 customers also have left them.
The telecom regulator has introduced the much-waited service in early October last year.
