IUB’s Team NERD wins Automech 2025 Hackathon at IUT

Team NERD from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has won the Automech 2025 Hackathon, held at the Islamic University of Technology (IUT).

The team's project, Next-gen Educational Resources & Development (NERD), is an AI-powered platform aimed at transforming programming education. It features real-time collaborative code editing, AI-generated adaptive quizzes, personalised tutoring, productivity tools such as Pomodoro timers and progress tracking, and options for both individual and group study. The team also presented a teaching robot that adapts lessons based on students' moods.

Team NERD included Tanvir Mahmud (team leader, AIOps and IoT engineer), Tawhid Bin Moslim (IoT engineer) and Srobona Nubah Sabir (designer and presenter).

Their solution used frontend tools such as React 18, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Monaco Editor and Socket.IO; backend frameworks including FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, WebSockets, JWT and SQLite; and AI through the GROQ API (Llama 3) and Google Gemini.

The IUB students received awards and certificates in recognition of their work, highlighting applications of AI and IoT in education.
