NRBC Bank, BB hold Bangla QR fair in Chattogram

NRBC Bank PLC, in collaboration with Bangladesh Bank, organised the “Bangla QR Fair 2026” in Chattogram to promote cashless transactions and raise public awareness about the Bangla QR payment system.

The fair was held yesterday at the Bangladesh Bank’s Chattogram office, according to a press release.

Md Hanif Miah, executive director and head of the Bangladesh Bank Chattogram Office, inaugurated the event as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Hanif said, “To build a truly cashless Bangladesh, the use of Bangla QR has been made mandatory nationwide under the ‘One Country, One QR’ initiative, which came into effect on July 1.”

“Bangladesh Bank has introduced this unified digital payment system to make transactions simpler, safer and more efficient. Customers can now make payments through Bangla QR using the mobile applications of any bank or mobile financial service provider.”

“From small neighbourhood shops to large shopping malls, Bangla QR is now operational across the country,” he added. Speaking at the event, Md Touhidul Alam Khan, managing director and CEO of NRBC Bank PLC, said.

“A cashless ecosystem is not merely about modernising the payment system; it is the foundation of financial inclusion, good governance, transparency and accountability. The introduction of Bangla QR has made transactions easier, more transparent and more secure.”

“Through our extensive network of branches and sub-branches across Bangladesh, NRBC Bank is actively implementing awareness and adoption initiatives to promote the use of Bangla QR, particularly among grassroots communities.”

“We are also providing Bangla QR solutions to merchants of all sizes, from small businesses to large enterprises, at minimal cost, supporting the country’s transition towards a digitally empowered economy,” he added.

Among others, Swarup Kumar Chowdhury, Mahbubul Alam and Yasmin Rahman Bula, directors of the Bangladesh Bank Chattogram Office; Md Sajjad Hossain Chowdhury, additional director of BB; Md Shaheen Howlader, deputy managing director and chief business officer of NRBC Bank PLC; and Kazi Md Safayet Kabir, head of the Chattogram zone, were also present.
