Trade through Benapole port resumes
Bangladesh's trade with India through Benapole land port resumed today after remaining closed for four days for Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community.
Some 167 trucks took part in the import-export activities through Benapole today.
"Of them, some 102 goods-laden trucks were imported from morning till noon while 65 have been exported from Bangladesh to India," said Abdul Jalil, director for traffic at Benapole land port.
He said instructions have been issued to the officials concerned to quickly release the goods stuck in the port due to the closure.
The government earns revenue worth around Tk 6,000 crore from the port per year, according to port officials.
Around 70 per cent of the goods brought in through Bangladesh's second largest port after Chattogram port from India are garments and industrial raw materials.
