Grameenphone network down in Bangladesh

Grameenphone, the country's leading mobile operator with over 8.49 crore subscribers, experienced a temporary network disruption this afternoon, primarily affecting 4G services.

Users began reporting issues with 4G connectivity, internet access, and voice calls after 4pm, and services began to normalise before 5pm.

In a statement, Grameenphone said: "Due to technical issues, our customers experienced difficulties with our network services for some time. Our technical teams have already resolved the issues quickly. We sincerely apologise for this temporary inconvenience."

This marks the fourth time Grameenphone users from different parts of Bangladesh have experienced widespread service disruptions since February 2023.

In February 2023, a Grameenphone official told The Daily Star that the disruption occurred due to damage to fibre-optic cables at "three different locations" in the northern regions of the country.

In September 2023, users across various areas complained about being unable to access Grameenphone's network for over half an hour.

The company attributed the issue to a "technical glitch."

Again, in July 2024, Grameenphone users nationwide reported similar problems, which the company also blamed on "technical problems."

Grameenphone's network is vital not only for the general public but also for key government services, including the army, navy, air force, and police, who rely on its connectivity for essential communications.
