Govt should sign FTA with UK: FBCCI
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) wants the government to sign a free trade agreement (FTA) with the UK to boost bilateral trade after Bangladesh's graduation to a developing nation in 2026.
Md Jashim Uddin, president of the FBCCI, expressed the willingness at a network dinner in honour of Lord Karan Bilimoria, president of the Confederation of British Industry and chancellor of the University of Birmingham, at the Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka tonight.
Jashim Uddin sought cooperation from Bilimoria for signing of the FTA for further growth of bilateral trade between the two countries.
The balance of bilateral trade is tilted towards Bangladesh significantly as the local garment has a big market in the UK.
In last fiscal year, Bangladesh exported goods worth $4.83 billion to the UK and imported goods worth $630 million from the kingdom.
