Ctg customs seize export consignment for false declaration
Chattogram Customs House has seized a consignment of Sagar Jute Diversified Industries, as the Narayanganj-based export-oriented company was trying to ship 16 times lower goods than declaration.
The exporter declared the consignment to have Tk 4.07 crore worth jute goods, but customs found only Tk 25 lakh worth goods.
"The exporter declared around 82,000 pieces of jute goods, but we found around 30,000 pieces. A departmental case will be filed against the company soon," said Md Ahasan Ullah, deputy commissioner of the Ctg custom house.
The custom officials suspected that if the consignment was shipped Sagar Jute would have taken Tk 76 lakh as incentive through the forgery.
According to the Bangladesh Bank circular, a total of 42 products and sectors get up to 20 per cent incentive of the exported value, where jute items enjoy the highest incentive.
The consignment was seized just before leaving the Chattogram port today, customs officials said.
"Now we are collecting the detail list of the company's previous exports to find out whether the company made similar irregularities in the past," said the deputy commissioner of the Ctg custom house.
