Agri ministry’s Tk 137 crore incentive for winter crop farmers

The government will give Tk 137 crore incentive to the farmers to encourage them grow winter crops, including wheat, maize, mustard, sunflower, onions and pulses, in the current year, the agriculture ministry said today.

The incentive will be given in the form of seeds and fertiliser to 16.7 lakh farmers, the ministry said in a statement.

Each farmer will get support for cultivation on one bigha land, Md Kamrul Islam Buyan, senior information officer of the agriculture ministry, told The Daily Star.

For example, a wheat grower will get 20 kilogrammes of wheat seeds while a maize producer will get two kgs of hybrid maize seeds for cultivation on each bigha area.

For mustard or sunflower, growers will get one kg of seeds.

A farm family will receive incentive for one crop, he said.

The Department of Agricultural Extension will provide the incentive based on farmers input card, said the agriculture ministry.
