Liakat elected vice-chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank
Liakat Ali Chowdhury has been elected as the vice-chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC.
The election took place at the bank’s 464th (emergency) meeting of the board of directors on Thursday, according to a press release. He is an industrialist in Bangladesh’s ship-breaking industry and a well-known business leader.
With his extensive experience, expertise, and visionary leadership, Liakat has successfully managed businesses across various sectors, including ship breaking and recycling, real estate, oxygen production, and banking.
He currently serves as the managing partner of Asadi Steel Enterprise and Jamuna Ship Breakers (Ship Recycling Industry), and the managing director of Bangladesh Ship Breaking Limited and L&M Builders (Pvt) Limited.
He is also a director of the Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the proprietor of Regal Oxygen, a founding member of Southern University, and a member of the advisory council of the Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association.
Beyond his business engagements, Liakat is actively involved in numerous national and international business, social, and professional organisations.
He is widely recognised for his exemplary leadership, entrepreneurial excellence, and enduring contributions to the country’s industrial development and socio-economic progress.
