Unilever Leadership Internship Program finds its top 19
Unilever is back at campuses, seeking out the winners to give them a winning start to their career. The whole month of June, the buzz word in the top private and public universities in Bangladesh has been the'Unilever Leadership Internship Program (ULIP) 2014, which was held across 7 Universities from where 19 winning individuals were finally selected to join the world class leadership family of Unilever.
Past interns have supported and sometimes even lead projects at the Company both at the planning stages as well as execution phases.
The ULIP 2014 was held from 16 June to 3 July to secure interns for the September 2014 to August 2015 session. Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University (IBA-JU), Khulna University, East West University, BRAC University, North South University and Independent University Bangladesh all experienced the exciting ULIP at their campuses.
You could see the students gearing up for the challenge as 'likes' and 'comments' in the official Facebook Page of Unilever Bangladesh, “Unilever Careers (BD)” began to steadily increase,The most trending topic was the issue of the CGPA. Ms. Taslima H. Jaigirder, Leadership Development Manger in Unilever Bangladesh explained “we always take a holistic view to assess on how you have utilized your time as a student to develop your skills and abilities at the university. CGPA will always remain a strong criterion in the selection process as it indicates your sincerity to your primary duty as a student. However, we also look beyond just the grade into your extra-curricular activities and achievements to assess your candidacy.”
Hence the 19 final Unilever interns are not just good CGPA holders but well rounded young adults. The 19 finalists had to pass tests to prove this. It started with a written exam, conducted at the time of registration, where more than 800 final year students took part. 250 students going through to stage 2, an aptitude test. 52 students were screened for stage 3, Group Discussion, held at the Unilever Bangladesh head office and from here emerged the 19 winners.
This year the ULIP was a far bigger affair than any of the previous years. It required the contenders to pass through multiple hurdles. Secondly it was tied to a new Unilever campus session called BizLeaders- where the students meet UBL Leaders.
UBL Leaders interacted with students and relayed their leadership journey. Through these sessions the final year students also learned about the kind of leadership development experience Unilever has to offer.
“We are globally known as a 'Factory of Building Leaders', hence we know that it is our responsibility to contribute towards the development of the students who will soon become professionals and lead many organizations in Bangladesh.” said Taslima.
It ended with the on-boarding session of the selected interns, with Kamran Bakr, Managing Director and Chairman of Unilever Bangladesh, handing over the offer letters. “The recruitment process was an amazing experience, something I have never experienced before.” Tarana Mahmud from IUB stated. Akib Mashrur from IBA-JU says “It's obviously exciting! I feel like I am up for a challenge that will help me throughout my entire career!”
The ULIP is set to do just that, provide an experience which acts as the building blocks to a great career. To the 2014-2015 ULIP candidates, Unilever Bangladesh wishes you a great journey ahead.

Spirit of Ramadan
People celebrate Ramadan in different ways. But no matter where you live or who you are - the spirit of Ramadan is the same: self restraint, purity, heightened awareness for others sufferings, sympathy and a general higher moral standard for yourself. To share this spirit of Ramadan with our consumers we organized the spirit of Ramadan iftaar table and enlisted our consumers' help to spread the message further.
We shed light on the common mistakes we make in Ramadan by raising awareness on food wastage, unhygienic food habit, unhygienic water consumption and excessive gifts exchange. And we made our brands do the talking.
Pureit, Knorr, Lifebuoy and Taaza ran an insightful online campaign to spark the conversation with the youth of the city. Through a Unilever micro site, blogs, invitations from Knorr's Facebook page and the sharing of this video we reached out to about 28 million people!
To allow the participants to live what was being preached, the brands organized the grand Iftaar table, inviting everyone to join in and share the Spirit of Ramadan with those around them - as well as those around the world. 200 consumers, invited through the online campaign, and 1600 underprivileged children shared Iftaar on the 24th of July.
It was the day we made Ramadan extra special by living the true spirit of Ramadan.
