Rozina Islam must get justice: Law minister
Law Minister Anisul Huq has assured of ensuring justice for Bangla daily Prothom Alo's Senior Correspondent Rozina Islam, who was arrested on Monday in a case filed under the Official Secrets Act, 1923.
"The government does not want any distance between the journalists and government over any issue. If there is any confusion in this regard the government will take steps to dispel it. Journalist Rozina Islam must get justice," he said.
He was briefing newsmen after a meeting with journalist leaders led by Jatiya Press Club President Farida Yasmin at his residence in the capital's Gulshan tonight.
Anisul Huq said it is the court which will decide about granting bail to Rozina Islam.
"I cannot interfere in the court proceedings. I will ask the prosecution to inquire about the case filed against Rozina Islam," he said.
The law minister told journalist leaders at the meeting that he will talk to jail authorities to ensure that Rozina Islam is not harassed or tortured in any manner in the prison.
Earlier in the meeting, Press Club President Farida Yasmin demanded that the law minister take necessary steps to withdraw the case filed against Rozina Islam, release her from jail immediately and to conduct an inquiry to find out the officials who confined Rozina, misbehaved with her and assaulted her in the Secretariat on Monday.
The journalist leaders demanded that the inquiry must be conducted by the officials from any other ministry than those of the health ministry, officials of which confined Rozina when she visited to perform her duties on Monday.
