People accomplished the impossible, we only provided policy support: PM
Presenting various statistics of the country's development, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said, "This is the achievement of the people of the country… My government created a congenial environment, giving only policy support. You (people) proved that if people of Bangladesh get favourable environment, they can make the impossible possible."
She said this while delivering her speech to mark the country's 50th year of independence.
The PM urged people of the country to take a vow on the auspicious occasion of the golden jubilee of the country's independence, so that none can toy with the fate of the masses.
The premier also urged to take oath so that none can hamper the progress of the country's democracy and development.
"Let's forget all the divisions and be inspired by the spirit of the Liberation War to build Bangladesh as developed and secular Sonar Bangla that the Father of the Nation dreamt of," she said.
Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, said anti-liberation forces in and outside the country have hatched various conspiracies to hamper the progress of Bangladesh.
"That process (conspiracies) is still on. So, we all have to remain vigilant to resist anti-state activities."
Saying that this year's Independence Day celebration is different from the previous years', she said, "We are celebrating the golden jubilee of our independence. But the celebration should not be limited to only formalities. We have to take oath on the 100th birth anniversary of the Father of The nation and golden jubilee of the independence to take the country to a new height."
Narrating in details the sacrifices of the people of the country during the Liberation War of, Hasina said, "Everyone will enjoy fundamental rights. Today we are able to fulfil their expectations to some extent."
The premier greeted all Bangladeshis living in and outside the country on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence.
She also remembered with gratefulness the roles of the friendly states, institutions and persons who extended their support during the trying times of the country in 1971.
Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, said, "Sheikh Mujib is the creator of the country and nation state. That's why we are celebrating his (Mujib) birth centenary and golden jubilee of the country's independence."
