Media distorted my statement on disappearance of Ilias Ali: Mirza Abbas
BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas today said media distorted his statement on disappearance of former BNP lawmaker M Ilias Ali.
Mirza Abbas, while attending a virtual programme yesterday, had said that someone from BNP is involved in the disappearance of former BNP lawmaker M Ilias Ali.
He also urged party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to find those involved in the incident.
But after the statement was published in several media outlets, the BNP leader today held a press conference at his residence in Dhaka's Shahjahanpur where he claimed that media only presented a partial statement.
"Quoting me, a newspaper published that someone from the BNP is involved in the disappearance of former BNP lawmaker M Ilias Ali. Can anyone prove it? Impossible… I want to say clearly that my statement was distorted."
"The newspaper also said, the government and ruling Awami League were not involved in the disappearance of Ilias Ali. I did not say this. It was twisted."
He said that a group of journalists went to Ilias Ali's house this morning. They charged his wife, harassed her by asking several questions. He questioned why this was happening after so many years.
"It would be great if you (journalists) present the truth before the people of the country. I did not say anything that would embarrass the nation, the country, BNP or my leaders and workers."
