Int’l communities' cooperation needed to protect labour rights: Law Minister
Bangladesh government has decided to work on a 6-year-long action plan to ensure labour rights and safe working spaces, said Law Minister Anisul Huq.
The action plan has been prepared in consistence with Bangladesh's graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2026.
The law minister said this while virtually speaking to the 341st session of ILO's Governing Body on Monday night, seeking cooperation from all international organizations -- including the International Labour Organization (ILO) -- to protect the rights of all working-class people.
Minister Anisul Huq placed four specific issues, namely labor law amendment, trade union registration, empowerment of labour inspection department, and giving up anti-labour interest activities before ILO's governing body.
The Bangladesh government is working to eradicate child labour in line with sustainable development goals.
ILO Governing Body's Chairperson and India's Labour Secretary Apurva Chandra presided over the session where representatives from India, China, Russia, Turkish, Morocco, Cuba, Iraq, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Canada, USA, Switzerland, Germany, and Mexico attended, a law ministry press release said.
