DSA for ensuring security of people on digital platforms: information minister
Information Minister Hasan Mahmud has said that the Digital Security Act is for providing security to people -- from harassment -- on digital platforms.
The minister made the remark at a press conference at his residence in Chattogram city yesterday.
Condoling the death of Mushtaq Ahmed and terming it "an unwanted incident", Hasan Mahmud said, "It can be look into whether there was any negligence from the jail authorities over the death."
Responding to a query, the minister said, "When a journalist is defamed, when a housewife is demeaned, and a common man is harassed on social media, how will they get remedy?"
"…Digital Security Act has been enacted to give them security on digital platforms," he added.
Reiterating that the government is cautious so that the act is not misused, he said, "I am cautious, especially, so that no journalist is victimised by misuse of the act."
