Despite being turned away at checkpost, commuters and vehicles flocking at Paturia, Shimulia
Three ferries left for Daulatdia from Paturia ferry ghat this morning with small cars and commuters besides ambulances and vehicles carrying bodies.
The situation remains such despite the Border Guard Bangladesh checkpost set up in Tepra area on Dhaka-Paturia highway to prevent commuters and vehicles from going to the ghat, reports our Manikganj correspondent.
"We are turning away private cars and other vehicles during daytime," said ABM Ruhul Amin, Shibalay upazila nirbahi officer, at the checkpost.
But private cars, CNG-run autorickshaws, motorcycles and commuters are managing to get to the Paturia ghat through different routes, our correspondent reports after visiting the area.
Many commuters also walked around 10 kilometres to the ghat from where BGB stopped their vehicles.
"According to the rules, only two-three ferries will leave the ghat with ambulances. But some small vehicles and passengers are also getting on the ferries," said, Zillur Rahman, deputy managing director of Aricha regional office of BIWTC.
The three ferries which left Paturia ghat before 8 this morning were carrying passengers, motorcycles and private cars along with ambulances and hearses, our correspondent adds.
Similar situation prevailed at Shimulia as well, as commuters were taking various alternative ways to reach the ghat avoiding check post, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
The number of ferries to run on Shimulia-Banglabazar route was increased to 10 but the rule for commuters remain the same, BIWTC authorities said.
The ferries will carry ambulances and hearses during day time, some private cars were allowed to get on the ferries in case of emergencies, our correspondent reports quoting BIWTC officials as saying.
Till 9 in the morning, more than 100 vehicles were waiting in queue to cross the river.
