BSF shoots Bangladeshi youth at Lalmonirhat border

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot and injured a Bangladeshi youth on Chawratari border in Durgapur union of Lalmonirhat's Aditmari upazila early today.

Bullet-hit Milon Islam (25), of Saptibari village in Aditmari, was rescued and admitted to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, reports our district correspondent quoting Durgapur UP member Mostakin Ali.

A BSF patrolling team of India's Padma camp chased and opened fire when Milon and some other Bangladeshis were crossing the border for bringing Indian cattle around 2:30am today, the UP member said.

Milon was shot in the back, UP member Mostakin Ali told The Daily Star this morning.

His condition is critical and doctors referred him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said Dr Md Arifuzzaman, a physician Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital's emergency department.

Lalmonirhat Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-15 Durgapur BOP Camp Commander Habildar Zahid Hossain also confirmed the incident and said BGB is taking preparation to send a letter to the BSF, protesting the shooting.
