Brac, Department of Agricultural Marketing to provide skills training to female migrant returnees
Brac and the government's Department of Agricultural Marketing have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide skills training to female migrant returnees and victims of trafficking to ensure sustainable reintegration.
Brac Migration Programme Head Shariful Hasan and DAM Director General Mohammad Yousuf signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations today at the DAM office in the capital, said a Brac press release.
As per the agreement, the two organisations will work closely while providing counselling for the social and economic reintegration of female returnees and women and children who were victims of trafficking.
They will also work to develop the beneficiaries' skills and support them in becoming entrepreneurs, the press release said.
Under the agreement, the organisations will identify real beneficiaries, assess their needs, provide loan and financial support as well as the requisite training, and assist them in selecting a business, employment, or entrepreneurship opportunity, it added.
DAM will further provide training to develop agro-based skills based on the beneficiaries' needs.
Alongside providing support to create entrepreneurs for sustainable reintegration, DAM will work on ensuring the trainees' safety as well as disseminating information and building mass awareness.
Agriculture and remittance are two important pillars of Bangladesh's development, said Mohammad Yousuf.
Bangladesh Bank's foreign reserve is strong because of remittances sent by migrant workers. However, returnee migrants, especially female returnees, pass their days in distress, he added.
