5 workers burnt in Narayanganj factory fire

Five workers sustained burn injuries in a fire at a knitting factory in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila early today.

The injured are Bashir, Mehedi, Alam, Nasir and Heaven Chakma. They are all 20-25 years old, reports our local correspondent quoting Md Tanharul Islam, sub-assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence (Zone-2).

The incident took place in Niki Dyeing, Printing and Finishing Knit Ltd around 3am. Two units of firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

The workers sustained injuries while trying to douse the fire before the arrival of firemen, Tanharul said.

The five were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. They suffered 10-15 percent burn injuries, the official added.

The reason behind the blaze can be known after investigation, he also said.
