Bangabandhu’s murals set up in 62 districts, 383 upazilas: cabinet division tells HC
The cabinet division today submitted a report to the High Court, saying that murals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman have been placed in 62 districts and 383 upazilas across the country in line with its earlier directive.
Among those, charges of 301 murals have already been handed over to the local administrations concerned, the cabinet division said in the report.
Process is on to hand over charges of the rest of the murals, the report added.
Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar, on behalf of the cabinet division, submitted the compliance report to the HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin during hearing a pending writ petition.
Citing the compliance report, DAG Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar told The Daily Star that construction of murals of Bangabandhu for the remaining districts and upazilas is underway.
All murals have already been set up on the premises of the Muktijoddha Council offices and the murals will be maintained and protected by the district and upazila administrations concerned, the DAG said.
The HC bench asked the cabinet ministry to submit another report to it on the progress of putting up Bangabandhu's murals in the remaining districts and upazilas as early as possible.
The HC on December 7 last year ordered the government to establish Bangabandhu's murals on the office premises of all deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers and to submit a report before the court on the progress of setting up the murals in a month.
On January 12, the Police Headquarters submitted a report to the HC, saying that it has taken necessary measures to ensure protection of all monuments and murals of the Father of the Nation across the country.
