Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain today condemned the attack on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and called upon the Election Commission to take step against the attackers through investigation.

“Such type of attack at the early stage of the election campaign is sorrowful and condemnable,” Dr Kamal also president of Gono Forum, a component of Oikyafront, told The Daily Star in his impromptu reaction.

The motorcade of Fakhrul came under attack at Danarhat in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila when he was meeting with some families of detained BNP leaders around 12:00noon.

The BNP leader went to his hometown this morning a day after the Election Commission opened the field for election campaign.

Terming the attack as heinous, Kamal said the leaders and activists of all political parties will have to stay aside from using muscles power during the electioneering.

He also called upon the EC to take step against the attackers through investigation into the matter.

11TH JS ELECTION SCHEDULE

The 11th general election will be held on December 30. As per the polls schedule, the deadline for filing the nomination papers was November 28.

The authorities scrutinised the nomination papers on December 2 and the last date for nomination withdrawal was December 9. The election campaign has begun December 10.
