Jhalakathi BNP leader held for attack on local candidate

Police have detained a local party leader over attack on Jhalakathi-2 constituency’s BNP candidate Jeba Amin last Friday.

Monirul Islam Nupur, secretary of BNP’s Jhalakathi district, was held from his residence early today, our local correspondent reports.

Shanip Kumar Gayen, officer-in-charge of Jhalakathi Police Station, told The Daily Star he has been detained for questioning over the attack.

Followers the local BNP secretary claimed that Police has arrested Nupur ahead of the national election to be held on December 30.
