BNP’s Wadud turned down in candidacy appeal

The High Court has turned down the appeal of BNP’s Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan seeking legality to run for elections from Khagrachhari constituency.

The High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik Al Jalil passed the order after hearing his writ petition this afternoon.

Thereby, Md Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan will remain as the BNP candidate who will run from this constituency and there remains no scope to replace him.

Deputy Attorney General Moklesur Rahman told The Daily Star, Wadud’s appeal was rejected as he was convicted and sentenced to jail in a graft case.

He added, Abdul Wadud cannot take part in the December 30 election following the order.
