'Robber' killed in 'gunfight' with cops
An alleged highway robber was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Joypurhat's Khetlal upazila Wednesday night.
The dead, Hazrat Ali, 28, was the son of Solaiman Ali of Daridah-Kalibari village under Shibganj upazila of Bogra.
Acting on a tip-off, a Khetlal police team rushed to Moheshpur village where some robbers, including Hazrat, were preparing to commit a robbery, blocking Joypurhat-Bogra highway by placing logs around 11:40pm, said Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khetlal Police Station.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire. Police returned fire, triggering the “gunfight”.
After the “gunfight”, Hazrat was found dead. The others fled, the police official added.
Police claimed that some sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.
A case was filed.
