Cops discover grisly murder by chance
Police teams tracking a woman in connection with a general diary unexpectedly ended up at the scene of a gruesome murder at an apartment near Sayedabad Bus Terminal in the capital yesterday.
Three days ago, a man lodged a diary with Wari Police Station stating that his wife Shahnaz Parveen went missing with lots of gold ornaments, said Hannaul Islam, assistant commissioner of Wari Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Policemen found that Shahnaz's phone was last used on the fourth floor of a six-story building on KM Das Lane, he added.
A police team reached the building around 12:30pm yesterday and found Shahnaz in an apartment.
She was talking to the police while standing at the door as the officers told her that her husband filed a diary mentioning that she was missing for the last three days. Then a policeman noticed that there were pieces of a dead body by the side of a bed in the living room.
Police found that the body was cut in five pieces.
Shahnaz told the cops that the body was of Sajib Hasan, 35, a transport worker, and that she had killed him that morning.
Police learnt that Shahnaz and Sajib had an affair and they rented the flat six years ago, telling the landlady that they were married to each other.
Police then recovered the body and arrested Shahnaz, Hannaul told The Daily Star, adding that they are investigating the case.
Talking with this newspaper, Nargis Akter, the landlady, said that Shahnaz and Sajib rented the flat for Tk 6,000 a month six years ago.
Shahnaz told her that she worked for the Criminal Investigation Department, Nargis said. She often came home around 10:30am and left around 4:00pm, said Nargis.
"When we asked why she didn't stay at home at night, Shahnaz always said she had to work at night. Sajib was a ticket checker of a bus service company in Sayedabad terminal," she said.
Sajib also used to leave the flat with Shahnaz and often came back home after 2:00am, said Nargis. "We never realised what was going on."
Police said Shahnaz's husband, who lodged the diary, was a reputed man and requested not to disclose his identity to the media.
