ACC sues SI for amassing illegal wealth
The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case against a police sub-inspector over acquiring properties worth Tk 39.13 lakh illegally.
The accused is Md Alamgir Hossain, 43, -- an SI at Sonatala Police Station of Bogura. He hails from Shoulisbala village in Sirajganj's Raiganj upazila.
Sudip Kumar Chowdhury, ACC deputy assistant director in Bogura, filed the case on Sunday.
According to the case statement, Alamgir joined police service as a constable of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in 1997. Later, he was promoted as sub-inspector.
He served at Bogura's Shajahanpur Police Station from 2013 to 2015 and at the Detective Branch of Bogura police from 2015 to 2018.
On January 24, 2019, Alamgir received an ACC notice which asked him to submit his wealth statement to it.
The SI submitted the wealth statement on January 13 last year mentioning that he has movable and immobile wealth worth Tk 72.51 lakh.
However, an ACC enquiry found that Alamgir's total wealth was worth Tk 84.16 lakh.
Speaking to this correspondent, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Sudip said they found that there was a huge gap between the SI's known source of income and his properties.
"We found that Alamgir acquired properties worth Tk 39.13 lakh illegally from 1997 to 2020 which is a punishable offence under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act-2004," he added.
Alamgir bought three pieces of land at three places in Bogura town worth Tk 21.50 lakh, said Sudip.
Despite repeated attempts, this paper could not reach the accused over the phone for comments. Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Sonatala Police Station, said he heard about the ACC case.
He said Alamgir was staying at his village home on leave.
