Chittagong's Tirjak organises Theatre Fest in Dhaka
To commemorate its 44-year history, Tirjak Natyadal, a noted theatre troupe of Chittagong recently organised the Tirjak Natyamela 2017 at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Dhaka from November 17-19.
The three-day festival featured performances to reflect the theatre troupe's 40 years' history on the stage with music, recitation, dance, pantomime and local folk songs.
Renowned theatre personalities Aly Zaker and Ramendu Majumder inaugurated the festival and a commemorative exhibition respectively.
Golam Kuddus, president of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, and Akhtaruzzaman, secretary general of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, were present at the inaugural session chaired by director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky.
Three plays were staged at the festival. On Friday evening, the group staged "Bishorjon" by Rabindranath Tagore. On Saturday evening, renowned Greek tragedy "Oedipus" by Sophocles was staged, while on Sunday the troupe staged Syed Waliullah's "Tarangabhango". All three plays were directed by Ahmed Iqbal Haider, who also spearheads the troupe.
On Saturday, acclaimed theatre personalities Mamunur Rashid and Nasiruddin Yusuff presented papers for a discussion. Ataur Rahman, Israfil Shaheen, Mannan Hira, Jhuna Chowdhury and Golam Sarwar attended in the discussion, among others.
Minister for Cultural Affairs Asaduzzaman Noor was present in the concluding ceremony on Sunday as chief guest, along with renowned theatre personalities Ferdousi Rahman and Ataur Rahman.
