“The people’s love is the biggest achievement of my life” – Anwara
Noted actor Anwara has been working in the film industry for more than 50 years. She has acted in 600 films, as of 2015. She has been honoured with the National Film Award eight times. Anwara, known for her brilliant dancing skills, began her film career in the 1960s, with the film, Nachghor. She also had a pivotal role in the film, Prit Na Jane Rit. Furthermore, Anwara acted in a supporting role in Sangam, directed by Zahir Raihan.
Initially, the artiste worked in several Urdu and Bengali films. Her first role as a leading lady was in in Bala (1967). With that role, Anwara made her presence felt in Bangladesh's film industry.
The role of Aleya in Khan Ataur Rahman's critically acclaimed Nawab Sirajuddaula was a breakthrough for the actor, garnering her immense popularity.
Chashi Nazrul Islam directed the film Shubhodai, based on Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name. Anwara played the lead character in the project. Some of her other notable roles include Moina in Amjad Hossain's Golapi Ekhon Traine and Chandramukhi in Chashi Nazrul Islam's Devdas.
After the eighties, Anwara played the role of a parent numerous times. She has cemented her image as a simple and loving mother on the screen in more than a hundred films till date. "People's love is the biggest achievement of my life. My audience encourages me," shares the actor.
Anwara worked in the film, Amar Maa, at the end of last year. Directed by Shahriar Nazim Joy, the film tells the story of a family and Anwara yet again plays the role of a mother in the project. Unfortunately, the film's release has been delayed, due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. Last year, Anwara was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Bharat Bangladesh Film Awards.
