Happy birthday to the legendary Farooque

Farooque is a household name in television and cinema in Bangladesh. His captivating presence on screen earned him a place in the hearts of the audience. Today marks the birthday of this legend, who debuted with 1971’s Jolchobi, and starred in memorable films like Lathiyal, Noyon Moni and Shujon Shokhi.
When asked what he plans to do on his birthday, the actor let The Daily Star know that he will not celebrate the occasion, since August is the month of mourning. “The Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated this month, so I do not have any celebrations on this day. However, I appreciate the good wishes that I receive,” he says.
Farooque starred in one of the most successful films in the history of Bangladesh, Sareng Bou. Golapi Ekhon Train E is also a classic film that people re-watch to this day. After his film Miya Bhai, the people of Dhaka started calling him Miya Bhai adoringly. The beloved actor, who won the National Award and Lifetime Achievement Award, is now a revered politician and a member of Parliament.
“One of my biggest achievements in life is that I have won the hearts of people,” says Farooque, who loves the country and its people irrevocably.
