Champa talks new films, Eid projects
Celebrated actor Champa has captivated audiences both in Bangladesh and West Bengal, with her powerful and versatile performances in films for years. In a recent chat with The Daily Star, she opens up about her latest projects and more.
What can you tell us about your upcoming film, Shaan?
I would say that Shaan conveys a really important message to the audience. We have been shooting the film in full swing during Ramadan. I am also really excited to be working with Aruna Biswas after a long time in this film.
How was the experience of working with young actors like Siam Ahmed, Taskeen Rahman and Puja Cherry in Shaan?
Siam, Taskeen and Puja have incredible dedication as actors. Their work ethic is commendable. Teaming up with them for Shaan has been a creatively satisfying experience.
What other projects are you currently busy with?
I will start shooting for Amitabh Reza Chowdhury’s Rickshaw Girl right after Eid. I am also a part of Jam, produced under the banner of Manna’s production house, Kritanjali Kothachitra, and another film titled, Paddopuran.
What are your comments on the current state of the film industry?
I believe that the quality of our films decreased in recent years, and the BFDC is not as busy and vibrant as it used to be. Apart from pumping cash, it is the job of a film producer to identify an artiste and simultaneously identify a market for the artiste. However, this needs hard work and time.
What are your plans for Eid-ul-Fitr this year?
My daughter, son-in-law and grand children are coming to Dhaka from abroad after a long time, during Eid. I will spend some quality time with them and two of my sisters, Babita and Shuchanda.
