Rihanna scores comic book movie role
There are so many comic book movies coming to theatres that it can be difficult to keep up. But it's not just huge names like Batman, Superman, and the Marvel heroes getting big screen treatment; more obscure titles are also being adapted. The film version of “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is putting together a recognisable cast, and the latest addition is pop star-turned-actress Rihanna. The film is being directed by French action auteur Luc Besson, who enjoyed worldwide success with Scarlett Johansson-starrer Lucy.
Though she's a hugely successful singer, Rihanna only has a handful of acting credits on her resume, including “This is the End”, “Annie” (the remake), and “Battleship”. She will be joining forces with Dan DeHaan, Cara Delevingne and Clive Owen for “Valerian”.
Created by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres, “Valerian” first appeared in 1967 till 2010. The story focuses on Valerian, a “temporal agent”, and his partner Laureline, who travel through time and space keeping a utopian Earth and the expansive Terran Galactic Empire safe from rogue time travelling threats.
