“Nothing beats performing live on stage”
Popular singer Sabbir has come a long way since his CloseUp 1 days. Aside from his singing career, the artiste has successfully ventured into music direction. He chats about his work and life beyond the recording studio.
What are you busy with right now?
I am busy with music direction. I've recently collaborated with a few artistes for this purpose. I've been working with Armaan from 'Mirakkel', Dolly Sayantani, and a few others.
As a singer, how do see the art of music direction?
My main focus is being a singer, but I enjoy directing music immensely. I feel directing music comes naturally to many singers, as it gives us a chance to experiment, and have more control.
It is currently the season for stage shows. How busy are you in this regard?
We look forward to winter every year because it's when we get to appear on stage and interact with the audience. However due to elections, I have fewer appointments than usual. I am going to travel to Chittagong, Cox's Bazaar, Bogra for performances. I will be performing in Dhaka as well and appearing in television shows.
Between television, audio, live shows, playback singing and radio, which medium do you enjoy more?
As a singer, I love singing, and I'm indiscriminate regarding how I am able to do it. However, nothing beats performing live on stage because you get to see the audience's reactions and interact with them directly.
There are many that hold the opinion that the music industry is going through a tough phase. How do you perceive this?
I am not pessimistic about the music industry. I know and believe in our capabilities of putting great music out there.
