Monira Mithu talks about 'Abdullah'
Monira Mithu first came into prominence under the wings of Humayun Ahmed's directorial ventures. Since then, she has been consistently putting out great performances on television and cinema, becoming a household name. In this interview, the artiste sheds light on her latest telefilm, Abdullah. The telefilm is directed by Golam Kibria Farooki and presented by Bhalobashar Bangladesh, a campaign which shows the positive sides of Bangladesh from the perspective of the Bangladeshi youth, in order to help people reignite their patriotism. It will air on Maasranga Television, SA TV, Nagorik TV and ETV at 8 pm tonight.
Is 'Abdullah' a message-based story?
It definitely is. People can learn many things from it, namely the fact that we should never underestimate or neglect someone. I think that this is a very important lesson that we need to learn.
Tell us about your role in the telefilm.
In this telefilm, I play the role of Abdullah's mother. Abdullah is a boy who studies in a Madrasa. The telefilm highlights the boy's struggle while studying in this medium, and I tried to portray the challenges of a mother who is constantly struggling with her child. Golam Kibria Farooki did a fabulous job with the direction.
'Abdullah' will be broadcast on many channels at once. How positively do you see this?
Of course, this is a very encouraging phenomenon. Truth be told, artistes work for the people, and the more people see it, the happier it makes us. I think the telefilm will have a widely positive social impact.
You were a part of the recently released blockbuster, 'Dohon'. Tell us about your experience in that.
I am actually overwhelmed by the response that I am receiving from my co-actors and fans for the positive character that I played in Dohon. My film Bhaijaan was also well received.
Tell us about your recent projects on television.
Tele-fictions keep me occupied throughout the year. Currently, I am a part of Mr Tension on NTV, Piritpur on Asian TV, and Chicken Master on RTV. Some new projects that I am excited about are Bibaho Hobe directed by Rawnak Hasan, an unnamed project by Kaysar Ahmed, and Bishorjon 71, which will be released on BanglaVision tomorrow.
