10th Int'l Children's Film Fest to begin Jan 24
The tenth edition of International Children's Film Festival Bangladesh is all set to take place from January 24-30 in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Rangpur and in Chittagong on February 3-4. The event will run simultaneously at 11 venues in the three major cities this month.
The inauguration ceremony will take place at Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library on January 24. Finance Minister AMA Muhith will attend as chief guest, while Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and Minister of Information Hasanul Haque Inu will be the special guests. Chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Mustafa Monowar will preside over the event.
Four film screenings will take place each day during the course of the festival at 11am, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm. Over 200 films from 54 countries will be screened at the fest. The festival is open to all.
The disclosures were made in a press conference on Tuesday. Eminent filmmaker Morshedul Islam, Munira morshed Munni and festival director Abir Ferdous spoke at the event.
Children's Film Society Bangladesh is organising the festival to open a new horizon of cinema for Bangladeshi children and give them exposure to the culture and tradition of other countries through films. Through this festival, children will have basic ideas on films and their role in building awareness on social issues to build a better society.
For Bangladeshi participants, the categories include: Child Filmmakers' Competition, Young Bangladeshi Filmmakers' Competition, Social Film Competition and International Film Competition. The theme for this year's Social Film category is “Climate Change and Environment”. For international submissions, the categories include Child Filmmakers' Competition and International Film Competition.
There are also a number of awards in the international category: Best Director, Best Feature Film and Best Short Film. And for Bangladeshi children, there are Best Film, 2nd Best Film, 3rd Best Film and two Special Awards. The event will also include a Young Talent Award in the Young Bangladeshi Filmmaker category and a Social Film Award in the Social Film category.
Besides film screening, a variety of interactive sessions and workshops with prominent guests are part of the festival.
