Katha Lalitakala Academy to honour Gunijan

Marking its 23rd founding anniversary of cultural school Katha Lalitakala Academy, a celebration programme will take place today (May 14) at 5pm at the auditorium of Kendriya Kochi-Kachar Mela, Segunbagicha in the capital.
The event will feature Gunijan Songbordhona (reception of noted personalities), a cultural competition's award giving ceremony among the inter-branch students of the academy and a lively cultural programme, participated by the noted artistes of the country and promising artistes of the academy.
Senior journalist and president of National Press Club, Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman will grace the occasion as chief guest while MA Jalil, former additional secretary and Language Movement Veteran, and Dalia Nausheen, renowned singer and artiste of Bangladesh Mukti Sangrami Shilpi Sangstha, will attend the event as special guests.
The organisers will honour three noted singers this year – Sadya Afreen Mallick, eminent Nazrul exponent and editor of Star Arts and Entertainment; Amena Ahmed, renowned Tagore singer and organiser; and Rehana Siddiqui, noted singer and organiser.
Katha Lalitakala Academy, educating students with music, dance and painting, was founded in 1993. The academy has been honouring gunijan since 1997, according to Alauddin Ahmed, the principal of the academy. They have so far honoured numerous musical and cultural luminaries including Ustad Phool Mohammad, Ustad Akhtar Sadmani, Sudhin Das, Sohrab Hossain, Nilufar Yasmin, Syed Abdul Hadi, Shaheen Samad, Anup Bhattacharya, Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, Dalia Nausheen, Mamunur Rashid, Ferdous Ara and Munmun Ahmed.
