IGCC to observe Tagore's birth anniversary

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre will observe the 156th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore amidst great celebrations at Chhayanaut on May 12, according to a press release.

The evening will include a lecture on Tagore by Pankaj Saha, former producer of BBC London and former director of Doordarshan Kendra, who is also regarded as an eminent researcher on Tagore. This will be followed by a dance drama based on “Bhanushingher Padabali” by Bhabna, led by Manipuri dancer and choreographer Samina Hussain Prema.

“Bhanushingher Padabali” is a book of poems by Tagore, and considered to be his first published work. Padabalis are a devotional genre of Vaishnava poems which narrate mythological stories about the eternal lovers Radha and Krishna.
