“MONIR” launched at Dhaka Lit Fest

A publication titled “MONIR”, focusing on the unique and significant aspects of the work of Bangladeshi-Spanish artist Monirul Islam: Selected Works from 1966 to 2016 was launched on November 19 at Dhaka Lit Fest 2016.

Asaduzzaman Noor, Cultural Affairs Minster and artist Monirul Islam took part in a dialogue session on the book, moderated by Mustafa Zaman, Editor of Depart magazine and a contributor to the book. Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Minister for Water Resources; Anwar Hossain Manju, Minister for Environment; Luis Tejada Chacon, Ambassador of Spain and Javed Hosein, Managing Director of Energis Limited attended the event.

The English-language volume is an invaluable introductory reference for students of art and art history and curators of South Asian Modern Art as well as for general readers aiming to gain insight into the essential features of this notable artist's work. Commissioned by Energis Limited, published by Nokta Publishers and designed by Head Office Communications, the 150-page illustrated publication is the first of its kind dedicated to looking at all periods and aspects of Monirul Islam's practice, along with reproductions of his works, his biography and a collection of personal photographs.
